Serge Planton
Head of the Climate Research Group (Ret), National Centre for Meteorological Research (CNRM) at Météo-France


Until 2016, Serge Planton was Head of the Climate Research Group at the National Center for Meteorological Research (CNRM), the joint research center of CNRS (“Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique”) and Météo-France. He conducted his main research activities in the field of climate modeling and in the field of ocean-atmosphere interactions. His recent research activity is focused on the issue of climate change detection in the observations and of the attribution of the causes of these changes.

He participates in several national and European research projects on the themes of climate modeling, of the simulation of future climate scenarios, of the detection / attribution of climate change and of climate services. He contributed recently to the Fifth assessment report of IPCC (AR5) as a review editor of a chapter on the evaluation of models and as a glossary editor. He is also involved in the production of reports regarding future climate scenarios within the context of the national plan of adaptation to climate change. He was recently part of the production of an internal report of ANSES (French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety) on the impact of climate change on worker health in France. He's currently a member of the Météo & Climat association, and Vice President for the Train du Climat association.
